Time cam woes?
Time pedals are great for mud riding, but some people think that 15 degrees twist before release is about 8 degrees too much. I can't vouch for how well this works, (my spare cams aren't in yet, and I'm not about to mod my only pair), but here's one mountain biker's ground-down solution to the problem.

USGS photomaps
1 meter resolution ortho-corrected photos from 1992 of the Bethel Trails area are now available (along with a lot of the rest of the world), courtesy of MicroSoft and USGS. Zoomable, scrollable, printable, just amazing. All creeks and roads are visible, and many trail sections are there in plain view. Not all that useful for riders, but seriously cool nevertheless. Just getting into mountain bikes?
Then check this out. A core-dump (remember those? Hell, remember core?) of good advice for newbies. Also, scope out Mountain Bike magazine's Mountain Bike Daily. Their Swami section has worlds of good advice on buying, sizing, riding.
