A large part of Ecologic is chitin.  Which is the primary protein complex that binds crab and shrimp shells together.  This substance is instrumental in the natural control of nematodes.  In other words Ecologic acts as a natural nematicide.  It does this through the encouragement of two types of bacteria, who thrive on chitin, and then go on to attack harmful nematodes.

Ecologic also contains many other trace elements that shellfish incorporate into their shell from seawater.  This wide spectrum of elements is one of the great benefits of using Ecologic over chemical fertilizers.
