Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
It's time to catch everyone up with some recent changes at
Gulfcoast On-Line Development, Inc. First of all, our
recent system problems should be over. No more system crashes
at the most inopportune times, no more mail-server sluggishness
at magic times during the day, no more waiting for the web server.
You didn't notice? Well, I guess they weren't all that bad. Anyway,
things are, once again, oh so smooth -- at least until the next
series of crises, of course.
Here's a quick summary of what's been going on:
- The Apache Web server at www.goldinc.com has finally
been upgraded to version 1.1.1 -- no more runaway child process
filling up all available process slots.
- The DNS server at ns.goldinc.com has been upgraded to
version 4.9.5 -- better, faster, more reliable Domain Name Service.
- The secondary DNS server at ns2.goldinc.com is up and working
fine now -- secondary name server configurations can be modified
to use 63.164.70.3
- news.goldinc.com (news2) has been upgraded to InterNet News (INN) 1.5.1 --
better, faster, more reliable News Service. Please report any problems
related to news to news@goldinc.com
- news1.goldinc.com (news1), running a much older INN, has been decomissioned.
- The reformatting of one of the 4 Gig news spool disks has (hopefully)
marked as unusable the bad blocks which were blamed for several system lock-ups.
- The mail server at mail.goldinc.com has been upgraded to
sendmail version 8.8.0 -- better, more reliable, mail delivery.
- We are now able to offer email aliases of the form
Bill.Maloy@long-beach.ms.us
Whether your home-town is Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis,
Waveland, or Diamondhead, a geographical-based email address is available
at no extra charge.
Non-Goldinc customers call for pricing.
- We now have local phone numbers for our Internet Access customers in
Hancock and Jackson Counties. Call 864-2434, 396-9389 or 463-0590 for
the modem pool telephone number in your local exchange.
- If you've been considering a virtual domain, but don't like the
idea of paying a "domain name tax" to the InterNIC, please call for
an affordable alternative -- a geographical based domain name such as
goldinc.long-beach.ms.us
- Our flat-rate internet access price is now $24.95 ... down from
$30.00 ... due to expected reductions in the price of our Network
Backbone Connection. We will continue to pass along price cuts to our customers,
as well as continuing our value-added service:
- No commercial restrictions on 5 MegaBytes of web content -- resale
encouraged!
- No extra charge for FTP space
- No extra charge for email aliases or email re-direction
- No extra charge for Web Traffic
- No extra charge for ... well ... no extra charges!
Rumors of the demise of Gulfcoast On-Line Development have been
greatly exaggerated. We'd like to take this opportunity to welcome
a few more businesses "to the neighborhood":
