Is Goldinc a local call for me?
If your phone number starts with 255, 341, 374, 377, 380, 385, 388, 392, 396, 432, 435, 436, 452, 463, 466, 467, 470, 531, 533, 688, 689, 760, 826, 831, 832, 850, 860, 861, 863, 864, 865, 867, 868, 870, 871, 872, 875, 880, 883, 889, 896, 897 or 993. Also, if your phone number has the exchange of 497, 761, 762, 769, 934, 935, 938 or 994, Bell South's area calling plan would apply with a maximum $15 cap.

What do I get for my $24.95 a month?
You get unlimited access to the Internet. You also get 5 megs of Web space with no restrictions on commercial content.

Unlimited access for only $24.95 a month? There must be a catch. If Internet Service Providers could afford to do that, they'd all be doing that.
Give them time.

What payment options do you have?
In addition to accepting cash, checks, and money orders, Gulfcoast On-Line Development also accepts Visa and Mastercard and Electronic Funds Transfer (where the amount is auotmatically debited from your bank account.

What do you mean by no restrictions on commercial content?
There are no hidden fees - if you want to put out pages for your business, your spouse's business, or for someone else ... go for it. We will not charge you an additional fee.

I was wondering a few things that I didn't see in any of your stuff. Like, HOW EXACTLY do I get on the server?
Any of several ways. By far the easiest (and best) way is if you already have Internet Access of some sort. These people are able to sign with goldinc using our online account registration. If you don't have access (and how then, are you reading this?), we have to US Mail or FAX you an application. Or, I suppose, you could take advantage of some free trial and go online long enough to fill out our application :)

Is it a shell or SLIP/PPP account?
It's both. The $24.95/month access includes a command shell and part-time, unlimited, dialup PPP or SLIP.

How much disk space do I get on the remote server if it is a shell account?
Your shell account includes 5 megabytes of storage for use with FTP/W3 with no restrictions on content, other than that prohibited by law.
Are you running on a Unix/Linux system, or something else?
Our user shell accounts are on a Linux 2.1.103 system. This server is also used to authenticate users of our access server. The same passwd file is shared across both, so the username/password sequence is the same regardless of whether authenticating a dialup connection or logging in to update your Web pages or otherwise using the Unix command shell.

Our News Server is also a Linux 2.1.103 machine, though with slightly more "horsepower". We also have a restricted access web server, now running Linux 2.0.33

What about a home page?
You automatically get a home page with your $24.95 per month. It's part of what you get when you sign up with Goldinc.

Okay, I have a page but don't know what to do with it. Can you help?
Goldinc will create a simple, text only (aka static) page at no charge. It would be similar to this page. If you want us to get a little fancy and add a graphic or photo, we charge a one time $10 per graphic set up fee.

Can I get a static IP address?
Yes, for an addition $5 per month. Offer good while supplies last.

How much can I expect it to run me if you design my entire home page?
It depends on how fancy you want to get. Remember, a simple, text only page is free from Goldinc. You can count on a charge of $50/hour for anything beyond that.

What about having a family account? Is it $24.95 per person?
No, as long as they reside in the same house as you. There is a $5 per month fee for each additional person and only one of you can use the account at a time.

Will we each be able to receive separate email?
Yes, each member of your family will have a separate login and email address.

I'm interested in switching to your service, but I want to make sure I have all of the software I need to connect to your service. I'm currently using a 100MHz Pentium machine, 16MB RAM and a 14.4 modem. I have downloaded both Netscape and Mosaic. I'm using Windows'95 for my operating system. Is there any other software I need to download and if so where is it located?
Windows '95 comes with dialup Internet capability. See the Windows '95 instructions with or without using the Internet Setup Wizard.
I know I've seen your Corporate Logo somewhere before, and it's driving me crazy that I can't remember where I saw it.

Does your son or daughter participate in Soccer, perhaps?

How do I change my password?

Read about that and other information in the Annie FAQ.

How do I install Netscape Navigator Personal Edition?

Thanks to Alex Zozulin for the following answer:

After loading Netscape Personnel Edition (v2.0) and trying to connect to the internet through Gold Inc. service provider, an error message occurred. It stated unable to negotiate dial in connection. This was followed by a second message. Netscape unable to create a network socket connection. There maybe insufficient resources or the network may be down. Try connecting again later or try restarting Netscape or try restarting Windows. Performing any of these did not help.

With GOLD Inc's help the following steps should be performed. Before loading Netscape one will need to get some information regarding the type of UART chip used. Exit windows and at the C prompt type MSD C . Then under the COM port icon, click it open and the type of chip will be given.

Load Netscape as described by instructions. The last dialog asks to connect and register or connect later. Choose connect later and exit Account Setup Wizard. Open Servicer Provider Dialer Icon. A dialog box with login, password, etc. is shown. Click on the Properties button.

Click on the Modem tab to check for correct modem and to set maximum speed. This will be based on the type of UART chip.

Click on the General tab. Under the Logging In check the box for Automatically login with a script. Then click on Record script. Netscape will call servicer provider. Then a ShivaRemote Scripter dialog box opens. After the annie login: Enter your login . Next, annie password: Enter your password . Another question is asked but not exactly sure how it was written: annie ?: Enter ppp (all lower case). A long line of different symbols are printed and systems stops. Click end which returns you to the General dialog. Software should work at this point.

Finally, if one searches their c drive for winsock.dll, two files will be found. One will be under the netscape subdirectory while the other will be under the goldinc subdirectory. We thought that part of the problem was having the winsock.dll in the goldinc directory. The file name was changed but this did not help. After making the changes above the system worked fine. Renaming the file back to winsock.dll had no effect on operation. Everything still worked OK.

How do I know what my IP Address is?

One way is to refer to ip.cgi. Another way is to run winipcfg (under Windows '95), or to refer to the appropriate field in your TCP/IP dialer.
