What is Go Girls?
GO GIRLS!TM stands for "Giving Our Girls Inspiration & Resources for Lasting Self-Esteem", a project started by the national nonprofit organization, EDAP, Eating Disorders Awareness & Prevention, Inc.

GO GIRLS! was designed to encourage teens to voice their opinions to advertisers, letting them know that beauty and success have little to do with the size of their jeans.

Considering teens have spent close to $84 billion in retail sales this year alone, their opinions and buying power can make a difference!

Through discussions and team meetings, GO GIRLS! participants explore their own body image issues, general principles about eating disorders and prevention, and learn about the strong connection between the media and body image, as a part of their marketing class.

As future business leaders, these girls have the power to change an entire generation of marketing decisions- to promote healthy messages that inspire teens to be their best, instead of the negative ones, so common today, constantly telling young women they will never be good enough.

Projects in the semester-long GO GIRLS! program include making presentations to executives at retail corporations, writing letters to national advertisers, participating in tv and radio interviews and creating peer awareness campaigns in local high schools.

The projects are designed to educate and empower participants to significantly change the way teens are portrayed in the media, the way they feel about themselves and, as one participant summed up her experience, learn "that one voice actually can make a difference".
