Background
GO GIRLS! provides young women with the tools, confidence and self-esteem they need to impact one of the major influences in their lives, the media, on one of the most pressing teen health issues- body image.

40-60% of girls in high school perceive themselves to be overweight and are actively trying to lose weight. Most of them don't need to. Unfortunately, poor body image is not simply a state of mind. Dissatisfaction with one's size and shape can lead to dire health consequences.

In the United States alone, 5-10 million women and girls have active, destructive eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder and bulimia.

Eating disorders are serious health conditions with one of the highest death rates of any mental illness. Their emotional, physical, and financial destruction, however, need not occur. They can be prevented and EDAP believes the GO GIRLS! program is one of the first steps in the process.
