Group Ride Etiquette
Warm-Up
Warm up at a civil pace. Muscles need warming up and joints
needs to be lubricated.
Ride at the group
pace
Decide on the pace before embarking on the ride. Don't pass the ride
leader (except in the paceline). His/Her job is to set the pace.
If you want to ride hard volunteer to be the sweeper so you can sprint
from the back to the front.
Tune-Up
Have your equipment in good working order.
Blowout = Party
If someone has a mechanical, wait for that person and be certain
they are OK before abandoning them. Just because they say
they are OK doesn’t mean they are.
Speak-Up
Call out Road hazards. "GLASS", "TRASH", "DOG", Etc. Don’t over
do this, manhole covers are not hazards.
Look out for those behind you
At intersections call out "CAR UP", "CAR RIGHT", "CAR LEFT" for
vehicles that are hazards for the riders behind you. They are trusting
your judgment; just because the intersection was "CLEAR" when you got through
doesn't mean it will be for them.
Not Stuck-Up
Snobby racer attitudes have no place
here. Just cause someone doesn’t shave their legs and ride an Italian made
bike is not a reason to disrespect someone.
Werya goin'?
Before leaving the group, let the ride leader know what you are doing.
Hold-Up
Regroup at every opportunity. Touring is not racing. If you
want to drop fellow riders; enter an event (race) where that’s the goal.
There is nothing wrong with some lively sprints etc. but keep in mind where
you are.
I wouldn't if i were you
Experienced riders should point out mistakes. One must use tact when
doing this however. It’s better to say something early that to wait until
some unsafe or incorrect behavior causes an accident
