.
Yes, we're the bike club in that vast Mardi Gras-soaked wilderness between New Orleans and Mobile.
We cater to all sorts of bikers: road, mountain, even people on hybrids. We have regular and occasional rides (social, fast, off-road, campouts, you name it), and a quarterly club meeting, usually followed by some kind of ride or bike-related event.
We maintain a trail area in the southern end of Desoto National Forest, and put out a darned impressive map of it.
We provide a local network (the people kind) for getting the word around for upcomming organized rides.
We keep a few maps of good, safe road routes up to date and available.
We try to put on one or two races a year, and have a pretty good (if loose-knit) team with a variety of grassroots sponsors. And we try to have a party or two every year.
Or, to put it more formaly, here's our Mission Statement:
The Gulf Coast Bicycle Club exists to encourage cycling as a fun, safe, and
healthy sport in all its facets. We promote and organize both competitive
and social cycling events. We endeavor to establish and maintain safe and
interesting cycling routes/trails on and off roads in South Mississippi.
As bicycle advocates, we abide by the same rules of the road as motorized
vehicles and we serve to educate the public that cycling is a keenly viable
alternative form of transportation.
And that's what we do. Interested? Come join us!
