Summer/Spring Mountaineering Pictures

ATTEMPT ON MT. PRINCETON, COLORADO, A 14er.  We didn't make this one, but it was still fun.

Time to go down

CLIMB OF CRESTONE NEEDLE, 8/99 ONE OF TWO TECHNICAL COLORADO 14ers.

The needle, and some of our guys taking a break near the summit.  We watched a rescue of
an injured climber on the Ellingwood Arette that day.

CLIMB OF DEVILS TOWER, 1990

This photo was taken just below the Broken Column of the Durance Route.  We
may be the only BSA Troop to have climbed the Tower as a Troop Outing.  Five
Scouts and five Adults, including the SM, ASM and three specialists made it.

In order to do these things, we have to practice.  This is us practicing
ice axe arrests under wild and fun conditions.  These techniques can
save our lives, but are also a real kick to do.  Here we pulled our friend
off his stance...Hard!

For another practice, we learned to stop a fall as a team and learn to rescue
injured climbers.  This was done in the Snowy Range in early summer.

During his off days, our Past SM (now ASM) runs mountaineering trips to strange places.
This is him showing off his Scout shirt on the summit of Citlaltepetl at 18,800
feet in Mexico.  The funny sky is from the scan of the picture.  He
left our flag there on the summit.
