• Reuters reports that users of Outlook Express, Outlook 98 and Netscape should be aware of a security gap concerning email attachments:

  The flaw centers around e-mail "attachments," commonly
  used in electronic correspondence to send background files or
  additional information. But unlike other flaws, which allow
  attacks only when the user runs the offending attachment,
  users with this flaw in their systems could potentially be
  attacked without even opening the attachment.

  The new flaws appear to affect only e-mail programs running
  on Microsoft's Windows, not Macintosh or Unix systems. 
  

  Microsoft has issued a Security Bulletin concerning this matter.

• For the past 24 hours, Goldinc's Internet connectivity has been riddled with short duration brown-outs (intermittent packet loss) and an occasional black-out (100% packet loss).
